IDLES have announced a number of headline shows to be performed in 2021. These include back to back performances at iconic venues such as the O2 Academy Brixton and the Glasgow Barrowlands.
Tickets go on sale Friday 28 August and as a thank you to key workers, they’ve offered a limited number of free tickets for them to enjoy.
The tour is in support of the bands upcoming third album, Ultra Mono, which is to be released September 25. Following Joy as an Act of Resistance and Brutalism the album has a lot of expectation behind it, but the band is sure to smash it again.
We’ve also seen the group recently release ‘Model Village’, a single from the forthcoming LP, about the small town “fishbowl” mentality found in Britain. Another powerful song with a message from a band who are no stranger to tackling big topics.
Front man Joe Talbot spoke about the single, saying “I hated growing up in a city that was really a town that was really a fishbowl. I left as soon as I could, only to realise the fishbowl didn’t exist… just the fish, and they’re everywhere.”
The accompanying video for ‘Model Village’ was directed by Michel and Olivier Gondry. It was a painstaking process which lasted weeks as Michel was held up in an LA studio cutting out handmade characters and arranging them on light boxes before sending them to Olivier who would bring them to life via CGI.
The single is the fourth to be released from Ultra Mono; it follows ‘Mr. Motivator’, ‘A Hymn’, and ‘Grounds’, the latter having earnt a spotlight in the NY Times. Fitting that a punk band such as IDLES be brought up in times like these.
Ahead of the album launch, the band have announced three live performances at Abbey Road, livestreamed on August 29 and 30. Each night will feature a different setlist and tickets are already on sale.
All eyes will be on September 25 as the band releases Ultra Mono, which should help keep tide fans over before the tour next year. Tickets on sale Friday 28 August.
