Having just released their latest uplifting album, Death of the Party, The Magic Gang are back with surprise track ‘Somebody Like You’.
Opening with a classic yet deceptively simple guitar riff, ‘Somebody Like You’ bursts into the kind of melodically sweet, harmony-rich chorus that The Magic Gang excel at. And at a time when downbeat news lurks at every corner, ‘Somebody Like You’ is a shot of pure positivity. The track entirely throws us back a few years, to the early Magic-Gang days where upbeat chorus’ permeated every festival lineup and tent.
The track marks a distinct new chapter in the band’s career, but stays true to the original sound so many fell in love with. The lyrics aren’t overworked, but convey the group’s message with a precision and clarity that makes it impossible to not sing along to.
The Magic Gang commented, “Even though the album just came out, we’ve been writing non-stop (there’s not much else to do) so we thought why sit on this song? It’s also the first song we’ve self-produced, we’ve been learning a bit about that in lockdown too. The song is about enduring friendship. Lockdown was the longest Kris and Paeris had gone without seeing each other since they were eight-years-old.”
The Magic Gang are set to embark upon a long-awaited headline tour in March. It runs in parallel with dates as guests to Blossoms, including a huge show at the Manchester Arena. The shows are:
